On-demand Primary Care Webinar 1 – Recognizing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in primary care: what to look for, what to do and when

This on-demand expert webinar focuses on the identification of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in a primary care setting. The webinar is designed to raise awareness for HCM and provide knowledge around HCM diagnosis. It assists primary healthcare professionals to:

  • recognize symptoms that may suggest a diagnosis of HCM​ and physical examination findings that merit further investigation and / or referral to secondary care
  • better describe pharmaceutical treatments for heart failure symptoms and identify potential drug–drug interactions in HCM patients

This webinar is 60 minutes duration.

Target audience

Family/general/internal medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, clinical nurse specialists, physician assistants, pediatricians, pediatric nurses.

  • Introduction to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)

By the end of this activity, attendees will be able to:

  • recognize symptoms that may suggest a diagnosis of HCM​
  • outline ECG and physical examination findings that are suggestive of HCM and merit referral to secondary care, and apply to an example patient​
  • summarize diagnostic differences between HCM and other diseases that can cause left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and apply this information to appropriately diagnose patients​
  • identify key drug–drug interactions which should be considered in patients with HCM and comorbidities requiring pharmacological treatment, and apply to an example patient
